Ashley Green Youth Theatre was founded by Di Burnett and is about to enter its 12th  year. The various groups meet once a week at Ashley Green Old School, or Ashley Green Village Hall.

What age do I have to be?

Di and her team run weekly drama workshops for 7 – 11 year olds and for over 11’s.

What Qualifications do I need to join AGYT?

The Youth Theatre welcomes young people with all abilities. The only criteria for joining the group is commitment and enthusiasm.

What can I expect from the workshops?

The normal weekly workshops run for 1 hour 30 minutes.

These drama sessions are very much about self development, self expression and confidence building. Through improvisation we aim to develop the voice and work on stage skills and technique.

Everyone in the group is given equal opportunities to develop their own individual skills.

Performance is not the main aim of this group. However when we do perform, the work is devised and created entirely by the group members. This gives them a chance to work comfortably within their own capabilities. As members become more experienced and confident, we encourage them to take greater risks, thus stretching them as performers and allowing them to reach their potential.

The members are encouraged to build up new, and positive friendships through the group

Most importantly we aim to have FUN during these sessions.

I love acting, but I’m really shy

No problem. That’s why we’re here. We’ll help you to develop your skills whilst building your confidence during the process. Many of our greatest actors are really shy people underneath.

Public Performances

All the groups put on a public performance at least once a year. These performances are usually at The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham, or The Little Theatre by the Park, in Chesham. We also perform at Ashley Green Village Hall and Chiltern Youth Centre in Amersham.

The older groups often work in conjunction with Chiltern Youth Club Drama and put on double bill peer education performances.

At times the group devise a short piece of issue based work to be performed in schools and youth conventions etc.

What Else?

All our members are encouraged to take some responsibility during workshops, rehearsals  and performance. ie taking over roles at short notice, designing programmes, helping with props and stage management, being responsible for costumes etc.

How much?

The termly fees are based on £4.50 per session, ie a ten week term would be £45.00. A £10.00 reduction is given to siblings. Leading up to performance we usually use Chiltern Youth Centre in Amersham for weekend and holiday rehearsals. There is no charge for extra rehearsals.
